Enterprise portal provider opens new office in the UK, names New
Director of Operations in Europe with strategic hires in France, Benelux

FRANKFURT, Germany and LONDON, UK — (May 2, 2012) —
Liferay, Inc., provider of the world’s leading enterprise-class open source
portal, announced today a more than doubling in European sales
with a significant rise in the demand for Liferay’s technologies
in the region. In support of the growth in business, the company has
opened a new office in the UK while recently naming a new Director of
Operations in Europe and making strategic hires to support key
  European markets.

“We are excited to see Liferay gaining significant traction
in the European markets,” said Bryan
Cheung, Liferay’s CEO. “The number and quality of
our customers show Liferay is providing significant value. With our
recently expanded team of talented business managers and a new
corporate presence in the UK, Liferay’s European offices are
well-positioned to meet this burgeoning demand.”

Liferay’s expansion in Europe follows its execution of a
strong channel strategy, which resulted in a 150 percent growth in
European sales in 2011 over the previous year and the addition of over
50 partners over a two-year period. The portal provider has made
significant inroads throughout the region, including in the UK, where
there has been a surge in demand for Liferay products, particularly in
the public sector as the adoption of open-source technologies grows.
  The new office in
London joins existing offices in Frankfurt, Madrid, and Budapest
to become Liferay’s fourth to open in Europe over the last six years.

  Joseph
Shum, formerly General Manager of Liferay’s European
headquarters in Germany, has taken a new role as Director of
Operations in Europe. In his new position, Shum will work to further
strengthen coordinated sales and operations execution among the
company’s European offices to better serve the region. Also
joining the team is Ruud Kluivers as Senior Manager, Business
Development, to support customers in the Benelux, where Liferay has
seen success with the many European Union organizations headquartered
in that region. In France, Marc Brassier joins Liferay as Alliance
Manager to support Liferay’s strong roster of French partners
  and customers, which include Société
  Générale and Barclay’s.

Open Source Leader Offers Enterprise-Grade Support

LOS ANGELES, CA—(April 3, 2012)—Liferay, Inc., provider of the
world’s leading enterprise-class, open source portal, today
announced that it was granted leadership for all open source projects
  on portletfaces.org, a
community that showcases JavaServer Faces (JSF) as the premier user
interface framework for developing portlets. The community was founded
by Liferay Partners Triton Services and Mimacom AG, who are both
recognized as experts in Liferay and JSF technology.

JSF establishes the standard for building server-side user
interfaces on the Java EE platform and is widely leveraged among
enterprise Java developers. Triton and Mimacom formed portletfaces.org
in response to an increasing demand for JSF portlets. As provider of
the premier open source portal for the enterprise, Liferay shares a
large overlapping community with portletfaces.org, as evidenced by the
high concentration of Liferay-related sub-projects such as
  PortletFaces Bridge, AlloyFaces, and LiferayFaces.

"The popularity of Liferay technology in the portletfaces.org
community and Liferay’s history of leading successful open
source projects made this decision an easy one—it is a win-win
for the Liferay and JSF developer communities," said Atul Patel,
Director of Agile Solutions of Triton Services, Inc. "Liferay has
a long tradition of embracing JCP standards like the Portlet API, and
we are confident that their commitment to JSF will yield the best
  results for the JSF community.”

"The work we have done at portletfaces.org has paid great
dividends," added Micha Kiener, Head of Research & Innovation
at Mimacom AG. "By making this contribution, our Liferay
customers will now also enjoy the benefits of enterprise support for
JSF as part of their Liferay subscriptions. Mimacom is looking forward
to continued participation and improvements for JSF and Liferay integration."

The Liferay Portal platform was created in 2000 and open sourced in
2001. Since forming Liferay, Inc., the creators and the
company’s leadership have continued to be dedicated to open
source development and standards, resulting in the expansion of its
community to over 60K worldwide, while encouraging adoption of open
source in the enterprise with high-quality support and services.

"We have seen strong demand for JSF portlet development from
Liferay’s community and customers," said Neil Griffin, JSF
Team Lead at Liferay and lead developer at portletfaces.org.
"This contribution by Triton and Mimacom provides Liferay with
the opportunity to support JSF under Liferay, Inc.’s Enterprise
  Subscription and Support (ESS) offering.”

The transition of projects to Liferay is already underway, and is
scheduled for completion this month. The projects will be repackaged
under a new umbrella project called "Liferay Faces.” Find
more information about Liferay Faces at www.liferay.com/community/liferay-projects/liferay-faces.

LOS ANGELES — (March 28, 2012) — Liferay, Inc., provider of the
world’s leading enterprise-class open source portal, announced
today that the latest version of its flagship product, Liferay Portal
6.1, hit more than 550,000 downloads in the first three months of its release.

At the same time, Liferay announced the start of a new series of
multi-city roadshows to bring the recently released Liferay Portal 6.1
Enterprise Edition (EE) directly to the backyards of global business users.

Liferay Portal 6.1’s high download numbers within the first
months of its public debut is at a record level for the portal
provider, signifying the support and enthusiasm that continues to
build around the award-winning, open-source portal platform. The rate
of downloads has more than doubled the rate for Liferay Portal
6.0’s release, which totaled about 230,000 downloads in its
first three months. The strong reception for Liferay Portal 6.1 also
points to the heavy demand for flexible, robust enterprise solutions
in today’s fast-paced, increasingly collaborative business environment.

“We’re very pleased at the warm reception for Liferay

    href="http://www.liferay.com/about-us/leadership/phinz">Paul
Hinz, Liferay’s Chief Marketing Officer. “Our product
is becoming the de-facto standard for not just portal technology, but
for enterprises’ broader web-platform strategies. This is being
reflected in the download numbers for our freely available Community
Edition as well as heightened interest in our professionally supported
  Enterprise Edition.”

  A special Liferay
Roadshows series, which begins on April 4 in Boston, Mass. and
travels to more than 20 cities in the U.S. and parts of Europe before

platform. “Usability enhancements for workflow processing,
publishing and content management make Liferay Portal 6.1 EE the
richest portal offering yet for business users,” added Hinz.

Liferay experts will be on the ground demonstrating key features
designed to empower the non-technical user and reduce IT intervention,
including: Liferay Sync, a powerful document sharing vehicle providing
offline synchronization for Liferay Portal users; Kaleo Forms, a
visually stunning and functional workflow processing capability; and
User Data Lists, which allow Liferay users to create custom lists and
model business processes online without involving a developer.

Liferay’s partners around the world will participate in these

New Social Network Features Rich Social Collaboration
      Capabilities within Liferay Platform

Social Umami leverages Liferay’s out-of-the-box tools to
      create viral shopping experience

LOS ANGELES — (February 14, 2012) —Liferay, Inc., provider of the
world’s leading enterprise-class open source portal, announced
today the launch of a new social shopping network by Liferay partner
Social Umami that was built on the Liferay platform. Social Umami,
which allows users to share their favorite consumer products with
friends, is now available in beta at www.socialumami.com.

Social Umami is an innovative new social networking site where
users list, rate, and comment on their favorite consumer
products. Users can then share their lists within their social
network of friends and followers, who in turn can comment, rate, or
even buy products based on their friends’
recommendations. The site leverages a basic principle of
consumerism: people are more likely to purchase a product on the
recommendation of a friend who has experience or expertise on that
product. Users whose followers buy products based on their
recommendations are uniquely rewarded, encouraging people to
  participate even more.

The team at Social Umami chose the Liferay Portal platform over
competing platforms and tool kits because it offered a greater number
of innovative features and a faster delivery time. Liferay
Portal’s web-publishing capabilities were a strong factor in
this choice as were its built-in social framework to track individual
user activities and relationships within specific groups and a larger
network. An additional Chrome extension was developed allowing
users to "like" products from anywhere on the web, making
the Social Umami services available to users no matter where they are
  on the Internet.

Nearly 85 percent of Social Umami’s functionality is based on
Liferay’s out-of-the-box features. The site brings rich
social interactions and allows users to:

  · Create User Profiles defining interests and expertise

  · Build personalized lists of products that they rate,
  comment, recommend

  · Share product recommendations with friends

  · Follow friends and experts

  · Track interesting products and follow pricing from
  multiple e-commerce sites

“Social Umami richly demonstrates the breadth of social
collaboration solutions possible in the Liferay Portal as a platform
for externally facing social media sites,” said Ed
Chung, Liferay’s VP of Product Management.

“Liferay Portal as a development platform helped Social
Umami rapidly deliver the features we desired to manage content and
user interactions in a social environment,” said Manish Dixit,
co-founder of Social Umami. “We could not stage, publish,
or manage the Social Umami service without Liferay’s unique
capabilities. We were up and running in far less time and with much
less development than if we had used either complex enterprise
platforms or simple web development tools. We have also found
that there are features in Liferay that will allow us to add new
features much faster and maintain them for less cost over the software lifecycle.”

  About Social Umami

Social Umami is the product recommendation network for the social
consumer. People can share their favorite products with friends,
purchase their latest finds, get recommendations or discover and
follow other Umami users and their tips. Products, music, movies,

Liferay Introduces Liferay Sync with Powerful Document-Sharing Abilities

Liferay Sync synchronizes content across mobile, desktop, and web

LOS ANGELES — (February 1, 2012) — Liferay, Inc., provider of the world’s leading enterprise-class open source portal, announced today the availability of Liferay Sync, a powerful document-sharing add-on to the Community Edition (CE) of Liferay Portal 6.1. Liferay Sync transforms the Liferay platform into a central, easy-to-use document sharing service.

With Liferay Sync, users now have the ability to access documents stored within a Liferay instance from their mobile devices and desktops. Documents can be dragged and dropped into a synchronized folder and then be edited, moved, or deleted. Sync automatically takes care of revision management.

A key benefit for Liferay users is access to documents offline; the documents synchronize when users are back online. A single user can make a change to a document on their desktop, which is then synchronized with the central server and updated for all other users who share that folder. In these ways, Liferay Portal becomes a central repository for documents, opening up new avenues of collaboration for a distributed group of users.

"Liferay Sync was designed to combine the benefits of a web application with the user interaction benefits of a desktop or mobile application," said Edwin Chung, Liferay's VP of Product Management. "The web allows centralized data and group access, and the desktop provides a rich way to search, access and manipulate documents. But while Office Web Apps and Google Docs require you to store a copy on the server and edit documents in a browser, Liferay Sync allows users to leverage any desktop or mobile office package, such as MS Office, OpenOffice, iWork, or Photoshop, to edit and save documents locally while either online or offline.”

“The launch of Liferay Sync is an exciting and significant product release for our company,” said Brian Chan, Liferay’s founder and Chief Software Architect. “The ability to combine desktop and mobile interfaces with a web service takes the Liferay experience to new heights of simplicity and enrichment for our end users.”

Starting today with the beta form of Liferay Sync, Liferay Portal CE users can synchronize their documents within one Liferay Site. A coming edition of Liferay Sync for Liferay Portal Enterprise Edition (EE) will allow users to share documents across an unlimited number of Liferay Sites on one installation. Liferay Sync is compatible with Windows, Mac OS, and iOS.

Liferay Sync, Liferay Portal 6.1 EE set to launch with strong open-source community momentum

LOS ANGELES — (January 24, 2012) — Liferay, Inc., provider of the world’s leading enterprise-class open source portal, announced today the expansion of its community to 56,000 members in 2011, a nearly 40 percent increase over the previous year. The participation of the Liferay community continues to strengthen the portal provider's offerings, including the new Liferay Sync and Liferay Portal 6.1 Enterprise Edition, both planned for release later this quarter.

Liferay’s community saw an average growth of 1,300 members per month in 2011, with increased contributions to forums, wiki posts, blogs, code contributions and activity in special projects teams. Forum posts, which represent the amount of online knowledge and online community support for questions, rose 25 percent, while the number of new members who are contributing to posts grew 10 percent and the number of posts quantified as useful by the original poster of the question increased by over 125 percent.

“Liferay’s commitment to community and open source development has been apparent in the healthy growth and enthusiasm of our community members,” said James Falkner, Liferay’s Community Manager. “Last year, our renewed emphasis on our worldwide community led to the creation of new programs, such as the BugSquad and Liferay Community Leadership, aimed to engage, equip and help coordinate all the great people and ideas that feed our open-source, open-community dialogue.”

The creation last year of the BugSquad led to important contributions from the community, through usability testing and functional bug finding, for a major product release—Liferay Portal 6.1 CE. Liferay also started the Liferay Community Leadership program as a means to identify leaders and strengthen contributions from the community through improved organization and structure. Last year also saw the addition of 18 new User Groups, regional grassroots organizations for the global Liferay community.

Strong momentum in the Liferay community is in place for new 2012 initiatives, including Liferay Community Projects, Community Blog Stream, Developer Contests and the upcoming Liferay University. In addition, Liferay is set for major product launches this quarter including powerful file-sharing technology Liferay Sync and the latest version of the company’s flagship product, Liferay Portal 6.1 EE.

Enterprise portal provider moves to strengthen interoperability in content management space

LOS ANGELES — (December 20, 2011) — Liferay, Inc., provider of the world’s leading enterprise-class open source portal, announced its support of a new open standard initiative aimed at improving the presentation and interoperability of content across WCM systems. As a rich content publishing platform, Liferay maintains a leadership role in pushing for standards that will help end users attain long-term benefits from their investments in Liferay products.

The new initiative, Web Experience Management Interoperability (WEMI), represents an evolution in WCM and is set to increase interoperability between WCM vendors, thereby driving down costs of web content integration and publishing. Formed through the standards organization OASIS, of which Liferay is a longtime Sponsor member, WEMI will allow for interoperability in the delivery of web content. Existing standards only address content interoperability at the lower data level, which forces customers to implement costly customized solutions at the content presentation layer.

"Liferay fully supports the OASIS WEMI Charter. We see immense benefits to improving the interoperability of WCM systems and enabling rich content consumption on modern web experience platforms," said James Falkner, Liferay’s Community Manager.

Liferay’s commitment to remain on the cutting edge of emerging technology developments has led to the adoption of forward-thinking industry standards in Liferay Portal such as CMIS, WebDAV and JCR. WEMI further supports Liferay’s vision of an open, heterogeneous, yet deeply interconnected web platform, allowing Liferay to serve as a modern WCM system, a social collaboration site, or many other uses in today’s web-powered environments.

In addition to benefiting end users, extensibility of WEMI will allow Liferay partners to reuse solutions for multiple clients and become domain experts without learning multiple technologies, saving them time and money.

Liferay is committed to supporting WEMI in a future Liferay release. WEMI is in the process of forming its Technical Committee and will have its initial meeting in January 2012.

Evaluation based on completeness of vision and ability to execute

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB -- Liferay, Inc., provider of the world’s leading enterprise-class open source portal, today announced it has been positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the “Leaders” quadrant of the Magic Quadrant for Horizontal Portals. Gartner, a leading information technology research and advisory company, placed Liferay in the Leaders quadrant based on completeness of vision and ability to execute on that vision. Liferay was one of five portal providers included in the Leaders quadrant. Download the full report here or follow the link from http://www.liferay.com/about-us/awards.

“The Leaders in this Magic Quadrant have a full range of capabilities to support a variety of portal deployment scenarios, and have demonstrated consistent product delivery in meeting customer needs for a substantial period of time,” wrote Gartner analyst Jim Murphy in the Magic Quadrant for Horizontal Portals report. “Leaders have delivered significant product innovation over the course of their pursuit of portal customers, and have been successful in selling to new customers across industries.”

“We consider our positioning in the Leaders quadrant by Gartner confirmation of our mission to enable customers to bring their people, applications, and information together to improve business performance,” said Bryan Cheung, CEO of Liferay. “Liferay’s commitment to meeting its clients’ needs through a dynamic commercial open source business model has helped the company establish itself as a significant player in the enterprise portal market. With the latest version of our flagship product, Liferay Portal 6.1, we further enhance our market position.”

Liferay Portal 6.1, introduced in the fall of 2011, builds on the platform’s strengths with new collaboration, web content management and significant document management upgrades, plus an improved human interface design for publishing and site management. Liferay Announces Liferay Marketplace and Liferay Portal 6.1 at its West Coast Symposium
Open source leader advances position as strategic platform for web app development, provides new tools for business users

LOS ANGELES--(PRWeb)--Liferay, Inc., provider of the world’s leading enterprise-class open source portal, today announced at its West Coast Symposium the beta release for the newest version of the company’s flagship product, Liferay Portal 6.1, as well as the developer community release of the new Liferay Marketplace. These releases enhance Liferay’s end user capabilities for business people and simplify the development of modular web-based solutions.

Liferay Marketplace is a channel for Liferay’s worldwide community of developers and partners to reach Liferay’s broad installation base with enterprise applications and plugins that augment Liferay Portal’s core portal, collaboration, and web content management (WCM) platform. With Marketplace offerings enhancing Liferay’s lightweight platform, customers will be able to build sites and web-based solutions at accelerated speeds.

First previewed at the Liferay East Coast Symposium in May, the Liferay Marketplace hits the first phase of its launch at the West Coast Symposium with a developer-ready release, which includes an SDK for app development. Liferay is already awaiting plugin contributions from several ISV partners, including Alfresco, Omegabit, ProfIT Software, Roambi, salsaDev, SocialEkwity, TandemSeven, Vaadin, and Xtivia.

“With Marketplace and Liferay Portal 6.1, there will be more situations than ever where enterprises will want to use Liferay as the foundation for their applications, because Liferay is now so much more than a portal,” said Paul Hinz, Liferay’s Chief Marketing Officer. “Marketplace makes it faster for users to deploy new features to existing websites and portals, and it gives the Liferay community access to the large market of Liferay users worldwide. Just as our open source development model has reduced costs for our core platform, Marketplace will reduce the cost of deploying extensions for our community.”

Liferay Portal 6.1 builds on the platform capabilities of Liferay 6.0 by adding significant enhancements for end users. This release elevates Liferay’s WCM capabilities; adds new features for document management; and enhances staging, publishing and site management, all with a strong focus on improving the out-of-the-box user experience. Liferay 6.1 also adds support for Data Lists and Workflow Forms, popular features for business users that allow them to build lightweight business applications without software developer intervention. Along with its new capabilities, Liferay Portal 6.1 maintains the same API-layers and architecture from Liferay 6.0 released in 2010.

The following are major highlights of Liferay Portal 6.1’s new features: Powerful Document Management

A revamped user interface simplifies management with unified document and image library, live document previews, and an Explorer-like interface.

Custom document type definitions with extended meta-data allow end users to define business documents (e.g., Budget Proposal, Employee Review, Promotional Video).

Administrators can define unique workflows per document type per folder.

Support for mounting multiple simultaneous external CMIS repositories allows users to access all enterprise resources in a single location, including SharePoint and Documentum.

Business User Tools: Data Lists, Web Forms and Workflow

User-defined Data Lists capture custom information (e.g., RSVPs, tasks, inventory, or issues) using a spreadsheet-like or forms-based view.

Easy-to-build business forms with visual UI, which can then be assigned to predefined or custom workflows, can be built and modified by users as business processes change.

	Enhanced Publishing and Site Management

WCM branching allows users to work simultaneously on several variations of a site (e.g., seasonal or campaign-specific variations) and schedule publication dates for each.

Enhanced staging includes automatic versioning with history and undo for sites and pages.

Content displays based on user profile attributes offer higher levels of personalization.

Hierarchical site templates simplify site management by ensuring sites are automatically updated when its template is updated.

	Liferay Web Platform Capabilities

Support for OpenSocial 1.1 allows web-based social applications built from gadgets to be managed and deployed directly to pages and sites.

Improved, validated scalability for high-volume business applications.

The beta release will be available for download October 14, and community members can receive the latest build by contacting Liferay's Community Manager. Liferay Portal 6.1 CE and EE GA will be available to the public in Q4 2011. Liferay’s Core Business Generates A 50 Percent Revenue Jump In First Half Of 2011
Appetite for Liferay’s high-quality, cost-effective web portal platform drives growth, ensures strong performance going forward.

LOS ANGELES--(PRWEB)--Liferay, Inc. today announced a 50 percent growth in revenue through its core business during the first half of 2011 from the same period last year, largely driven by strengthening adoption from industries such as financial services, health care, manufacturing and higher education. These sectors are seeing growing needs for the cost-effective, flexible web portal strategies that Liferay offers.

As the provider of the world’s leading enterprise-class open source portal, Liferay has a rapidly growing community of 46,000 registered users. The web portal leader is on track to see its financial performance continue to strengthen and accelerate through the second half of 2011.

“Liferay, Inc.’s solid fiscal performance underscores the enduring strength and adaptability of the Liferay platform, which our customers in a broad array of industries are using to solve complex business problems quickly and efficiently,” said Bryan Cheung, CEO of Liferay, Inc. “Our continuing growth also reflects the passion found across our ecosystem, from our employees to our partners to our open source community—together, we have built one of the best web application platforms on the market today.”

Liferay’s total global revenue saw an approximate 50 percent increase in its core business of providing support and other professional services over the same six-month period in 2010. The 50 percent increase is in addition to growing OEM business with major vendors in technology, telecom, and information services.

Enterprise leaders are increasingly choosing Liferay over much bigger competitors for their enterprise portal and collaboration needs, according to Cheung. In an economic environment requiring fiscal responsibility, efficiency and innovation, companies choosing Liferay cite the product’s flexibility and modularity, breadth of features and ease of use, which together help businesses respond quickly in an agile fashion to changing markets. Financial services companies are building highly personalized online user experiences, health care companies are providing greater information transparency, and universities are responding to students accustomed to highly dynamic, collaborative web environments.

The financial performance reflects strong enthusiasm for Liferay among developers and decision makers. In the first half of this year, Liferay saw its average rate of downloads nearly double to 125,000 downloads per month, compared to the average 64,000 downloads per month in the same period last year.

Web traffic is also accelerating--Liferay has seen in the first six months of 2011 a 41 percent jump in monthly visits to the company’s website from more than 200 countries and territories worldwide. Weekly site visits are up by 25 percent.

	Business outlook:
In the second half of 2011, Liferay will embark on new opportunities for its ecosystem of partners and developers with the launch of the highly anticipated Liferay Marketplace. End users will be able to find, purchase, download and install third-party Liferay applications through the new site. The collaboration is aimed to make Marketplace the premier destination for solutions built on the Liferay platform.

Liferay is also set to unveil Liferay Portal 6.1EE, the platform’s newest version, at the upcoming West Coast Symposium (Anaheim, Calif., Sept. 21 and 22).
