I have searched far and near trying to find a tutorial on how to go about creating a JSF deployable war portlet for Liferay. But have found no (step-by-step) examples of how to do this.

If someone could up a tutorial I think it would help a whole lot if us (I'm sure I'm not the only one wanting to use JSF portlets in Liferay!).

Would appreciate the help.

Don't expect too much of jsf. Nice components from tomahawk or sandbox do not work within Liferay. Also it`s not possible to use Facelets. Most of this is because Liferay works with HttpPortletRequest while these components try to cast to HttpServletRequest.

If JSF is not the recommended UI framework to use with Liferay, is Struts the recommended framework. There is documentation on creating strus portlets on the Liferay website.

In the roadmap document (http://www.liferay.com/web/guest/devzone/features_and_road_map/future_releases) there is a mention about refactoring portlets into JSF. Does this mean that support for JSF is going to get better (ie. if it isn't good already)?

A step-by-step example for JSF portlet development in liferay should still help us develop some simplet portlets.

Thanks

For all new development we support Struts and JSF.

We are coming out with a JSF portlet tutorial in war format, and that also includes interaction to the database via our ext service layer, build from service builder.

We have done the JSF portlet war in our public and private trainings.

Please keep an eye out for this soon. I'll post here when it is available.

Thanks!

In the mean time before the tutorial comes out you can go here:

http://www.liferay.com/web/guest/downloads/samples

Look for" Sample JSF". These are the basic skeleton WARs implementing JSF.

The tutorial is up!

Please take a look at: http://www.liferay.com/web/guest/documentation/4_2/development#presentations

It is under the "JSF Portlet" section near the bottom.

***Please note that as of today's current release (v.4.2.1), in order to get the database interaction with the Liferay service layer, you must update your source to SVN trunk. This is because this portlet example is in a new *.WAR format and it must use the new ext-service. There was a patch to the classloader that is currently in SVN trunk. Again, you can still create Liferay Portlet wars in JSF with version 4.2, but the database portion of the tutorial requires SVN trunk as of the date of this post.

Enjoy!

This might be because MyFaces/Tomahawk is not container agnostic. The components that do not work in Liferay, are not likely to work in any portlet environment.

Hi!

Sounds good to me! Maybe my informations are too old. Did anyone already try to use
1<s:schedule>
from sandbox???

Another good idea for a Tutorial would be using zk (www.zkoss.org) in Liferay. I've already a bit experience with this, but I can not write it to LiferayPedia, because my account doesn´t work. All my posts about this are ignored in this forum!emoticon

Thanks.

Could you try this link on the wiki?

http://wiki.liferay.com/index.php/Special:Userlogin

Put in the same username you used and click "E-mail Password", just to see if for some reason there was a problem with the email server the first (dozen) time(s) you tried.

The link for the tutorial doesn't exist anymore. There is a community member that created a PrimeFaces Portlet Tutorial wiki entry though. It's a little out-of-date, but if you follow the warning in the NOTE section at the top you should be OK. We hope to come up with some tutorials authored by the Liferay Faces team in the coming weeks/months.

The PrimeFaces Portlet Tutorial has been recently updated for usage with Liferay Portal 6.2, and the new Developer Guide has a new Developing JSF Portlets section.
