Hi,

Is there a way to check number of users logged in
OR
Number of active sessions in Liferay? Is there a place in the server control panel where this information is displayed?

Thanks,
-ash

You can set "true" in portal-ext.properties to the property:
live.users.enabled

It will allow you to access to a page which display the current active session (Control Panel -> Portal -> Monitoring).

Did you check JMX already?

I'm running Liferay in JBoss, and JBoss has JMX Beans that provide the number of currently active sessions as well as the total values since JBoss was started and the max. number of concurrently active sessions. Other containers would provide similar values.

Just another note on user tracking.
In a couple of weeks we will be releasing an Audit Radar Portlet (available for free downloads as well).
This one will allow you to watch in real-time how users are moving across your Liferay portal, it should bring some fun too to portal owners and administrators.

Pre-release preview is available here: http://www.myoffice24x7.com/web/audit-radar-portlet.

A couple of comments, go easy on it as obviously this portlet is not really designed for public access (so we limited its coverage by only a couple of places).

A couple of technical details for this particular portlet instance:
- coverage: limited number of communities / public pages only;
- time depth: 10 minutes;
- display depth: maximum of 20 most recent users (guests, bots, signed in users)
- memory depth: maximum of 100 most recent users;
- action memory depth: 20 last actions per user;
- visual radar (left side) is switched off until Monday;
- radar and auditing/log mode of operation: shuts down automatically if no radar visitors for 1 minute; starts automatically when at least one user visits any radar screen.

Will take about 1.5 weeks until first public version is available.
