I configured both my liferay(6.0.6) production server and development server(in my laptop) to use ldap authentication successfully. I've used these settings for about two months now and didn't encounter any problem with authentication. But today when I logged with my ldap credentials it started asking for a new password(message "Please set a new password."). But even when I set one it still asks me for a new password each time I login.

The strange thing is that this happens for both the production and development servers. I've checked my password policy for both the servers and unchecked everything that might cause the passwords to be taken as expired. But still it's asking for a new password each time I login. This happens if any other user logs in as well.

Has anyone encountered this problem before? Is this a bug? Please help!

I found out that this is caused by LDAP server sending a warning that the password is about to expire.

Uncheck the "Use Password Policy" from the Portal Settings->LDAP->Authentication.
