Good day

What is the recommended approach for developing a new application to be integrated with Liferay?

1. Build it using Liferay Faces bridge (Makes it easy to separate out the application from Liferay, if required, in future) or
2. Build it using Liferay MVC (tight-coupling with Liferay APIs)

Best regards,
Anand

I think Faces is still in development. In the end, I think it'll depends on your application.

If your development team has JSF development skills, then it might be good to use Liferay Faces (at production status since August 2012).

Otherwise, you can use the Liferay MVC portlet or some other framework like Spring Portlet MVC, or Vaadin.
