I made a slight change to my portal-ext.properties (only added live.users.enabled=true for testing purposes). After I restarted my Liferay Server I couldn't login anymore, because the default login page doesn't came up with the login portlet, and the dockbar was also not visible. Now, I restarted the whole development server (OS), restarted tomcat , but still no way to log into the server. Surprisingly when I entered the URL /myserver/group/control_panel into the browser, I was able to access the control panel as with my account I was formerly logged in. I took the chance to look, if the Sign In Portlet was still active in the server, and it was.

To get a really "clean" session, I used /myserver/c/portal/logout and afterwards I couldn't access the control_panel anymore (that's OK). But there is still no login Portlet at the login page (myserver/c/portal/login)

I am using Liferay 6.1.1 with the default "welcome" theme and a Liferay Tomcat bundle, I didn't modify anything from the "What we Do" Example Site, and I see nothing unsusal from the tomcat logs. This now happened twice a week, and last Time I simply reintalled everything from scratch, but now I want to understand what's happening here before I start seriously working with Liferay.

If you checked "remember me", you should automatically be logged in. Don't know why the dockbar wouldn't show if you were logged in.

Sometimes this is a cache issue, sometimes a cookie issue, but sometimes this can also be an httpd server/proxy issue (there was a thread awhile back about a proxy that a university was using that was not working well with the "remember me" checkbox, but I don't remember the details).

Had the same problem and decided to keep live.users.enabled=false

There are some issues with this property:

Yes, the issue described in the tickets matches my configuration exactly. Same Liferay Version, remember me activated, and live.users.enabled= true.

Of course I changed live.users.enabled back to false when i noticed the problems, but even then I wasn't able to login again to my (Test-) portal, because the login portlet didn't show up again when using /localhost/c/portal/login

Thankfully I only tried this in my test-environment before trying this on the production server. The only way to get my portal working again was to install a new liferay instance, start it on a new DB-Schema, and after the Setup Wizard has run once, restart the server with the original database connected (of course the data-folder must also be copied to the new liferay instance)

Too bad, I have an issue on my production server, where certain users are constantly loosing sessions or getting exceptions when trying to download files from the liferay document library, and i was hoping live.users.enabled could help me in matching issues from the Log-Files with times when these users are logged in.
