Hi all -

I am hoping that someone can help me understand this new feature. I am getting an error, and I am thinking it's just because I don't understand the proper way to use structure inheritance.

I have built a fairly robust structure, and I would like to add a child structure to it thinking that I would add another element or two. When I select the parent structure in the UI and click save, I receive this message: This structure is already within the inheritance path of the selected parent. Please select another parent structure.

Even if I start off with a very simple structure, I get the same message. Any ideas what I am doing wrong or mis-thinking?

Unfortunately...It is a bug....it only happens when:
1. You create a new structure
2. Choose autogenerateId
3. Inherit a structure with no parents.

The validation error is only supposed to happen when you try to create a circular loop of structure inheritance.
Work arounds:
1. Create structure first without inheritance, then edit and add it afterward.
2. Specify an ID

Created a ticket and working on a fix...thanks.

At least your understanding and thinking was correct =P

Hi!
This new feature sounds really good!
However, I couldn't find it yet!
Where do I access "Structure Inheritance"?
Under "Manage Pages"?

Please help.

Thanks!

Hey Max,

This feature is located in control panel > web content > structures. When you create a new structure, you can choose a parent structure for it to inherit from.

Thank you very much, Amos!
To be honest, I expected something slightly different!
I'm not sure if I can achive what I need with it ...

Can I add a navigation portlet in that structure, as well?
And how would I do that? Is that feature appropriate to
set up a "content layout" (similar to a layout template) once
and use it for all sup pages of a navigation structure?

Or would it be a better way to create a custom layout template
for this purpose?

Are there any tutorials about the Structure Inheritance feature?

Your help is highly appreciated!
