Hi all

I am looking at using Liferay in a financial services organization. This could end up with a very large base of users. I was wondering what experience others have had using Liferay in a similar environment with a large base of users and what experiences they have had. Hoping for some good success stories here.

Thanks

Hi Jeffrey,

This might not be an exact information that you have been looking for, but it might be able to give you some idea how Liferay performs in general.

This is one instance where I would advise you to be very wary. You're talking about financial services. A lot of my background comes from the financial sector. Liferay has some serious security issues with certain features that you should really be aware of as they might be deal breakers for you.

Let me start off by saying that I love Liferay but I'm not blinded by it. Our website runs it and runs comfortably but I'm not in the financial sector any more. My background is mostly financial sector and DOD. I'm also a CISSP. Because of that, I have a very good idea about what your needs are. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt... the stuff animal... and the beach towel.

For example...

There are issues with the https stuff... either logging people out or not working.

NT authentication will allow the user to put in ANY password and still authenticate them. As long as you have a valid user name, you're in.

I'm having an issue right now because when you activate Staging so that you can turn on Workflows, you have to grant "Manage Pages" to allow people to edit. "Manage Pages" isn't a Community Right... it's a portal right.

Search will give up items that you don't have access to.

There are others... I would strongly advise that you test it thoroughly before you deploy it in production environment with sensitive information on it.

Lisa, out of curiosity, is it safe to assume that your judgements are based on our Community Edition and not our Enterprise Edition?

Jeff,

One of our customers, Product Partners, has a very dynamic site with 1.3 million users in a collaboration scenario with live streaming real-time video. It's a pretty heavy usage scenario.
