Digital Certificate Login

Background #

The goal of this project is to extend Liferay's login system so that it supports access and authentication by digital certificate.

Use Cases #

Digital certificates are widely used in public administration to identify citizens, and it can be a valuable new feature for Liferay.

The Solution #

The digital certificate is usually stored in the web browser, so the portal should be able to access that information and open a new session in Liferay for that authenticated user.

Skills Needed #

  • Required: Java, JSP
  • Nice to have: some knowledge on Liferay plugins, authentication systems and certificates is a plus.

Deliverables #

A plugin hook for Liferay 6.0.6, 6.1.+ that implements this functionallity

This is a nice idea. The main issue is the certificate profile: what field to use, what attribute to use; associate dinamic rules to certification policies. The second is to easily manage CA certificates without having to go to the console; and good for tomcat, jboss, websphere, ...

What about using a card reader? There are many personal certificates embedded in personal cards.
