We tried out the CE version of 6.0 and loved it so we have decided to try the trial of EE. What we found was that there is about 50% of the portlets in the EE version compared to the CE version. For example, under Social there is only 3 portlets.

Does anyone know where to get all the rest of them?

Just to be sure I installed two separate copies. One I used the default HSQL and one I used our own SQL Server. It was the same with both.

I was told that you don't get all of the same portlets out of the box in the EE as the CE. To get those you have to get access to a customer portal.

Can't you just deploy the CE portlets in EE? They should be compatible.

I think you're also talking about the CE bundled version which is more of a demo version. CE war version doesn't contain
all the portlets in the bundled versions too. Bundled version is nice, but most production sites don't require all these portlets.
Additionally, most of these portlets are not "usuable" out of the box so it's better to have only those that can actually be used.

Is concerned really about support rather than having to download/deploy them yourself?

I was able to install the Social Networking bundle which brought back all of the missing portlets.

FYI, Social Networking bundle has some functionality limitation as compared to the portal.

Could you elaborate on what limitation it has? It appears to add a great deal of functionality to the portal, activities, wall, posts, etc.

EE Only comes with Portlets Bundled in Liferay Portal. To download and install rest of the portlets you can use Plugin Installation facility.
Login as Admin, go to Control Panel > Plugins Installation -> Install more portlets.

Liferay really should have a table to show the difference but I haven't seen it.
You can read posts in the social office forum or google around.

That said, if it satisfies your needs, it's probably good enough. No sense of getting a tools with features you don't need. emoticon
