Sharing knowledge on #liferay IRC room

Hi !

I create this thread to speak about the Liferay community IRC room!
This is a place of support for the Liferay users and developpers. There are about fifteen regular people and we reach some interesting peaks of affluence (as noted by James Falkner, the Liferay Community Manager in a tweet from October 6: "Yay for old school IRC: we briefly reached 27 participants on #liferay IRC today. Where are you? http://bit.ly/kXButz ").

The benefits
  • Enjoy the experience of some initiated users.
  • Benefit of knowledge of some Liferay staff members, very available and who know exactly the answer you need.
  • Get quick answers to your questions (if connected people are able to help you). Generally, you will obtain answer more easily than on the forum.
  • Then, help others as others helped you.

How to reach the #Liferay room on IRC?
This room is available on the Freenode server.
  • You can use a IRC Client (mIRC, Pidgin, kvIRC etc.). Very quick to configure!
  • Or also, use the Freenode web client: http://webchat.freenode.net/

Once you are connected, join the room by using the interface (if possible) or by typing the following command: /join #liferay .

The aim of this room is to weld the Liferay user Community around a place of exchange and communication.
As we said earlier on the #Liferay room, IRC is probably the most suited tool to communications in an Open Source community. Maybe a little bit "has-been", but so intuitive, simple and direct!

So, join us soon!

Leo
