This isn't too important a question but Brian Kim mentioned in the following thread about Liferay's official documentations always being online for free.

Now, when I and my collegues started liferay, we remember liferay's documentations not being able online. The links didn't work as in the following thread.

You'll be able to search for similar posts. It was buy the printed documents to get information. I do, however, remember wiki being always available.

Just wondering if liferay's documentations has always been available online or not. Intensions may have been there, but I think it was not available always.

AFAIK online documentation (when existed) it was for free. For example, user guide has been a work for some years and now is complete. I suppose they have been working on it and published when it was almost finished.

If I remember correctly, the User Guide was available and linked, however it was in PDF format. E.g. I could find the 4.0 User guide here.

The HTML format for displaying the guide was developed in the last year only, probably this the reason for the question.

Well no. I'm talking about the url link to the documentation. As is written in the link to the post, the link to the user guide resulted in an error because it didn't exist.

Yes, so the question is whether it always existed or not. I agree that it was available for free when it existed but I remember the documentation being deleted for some period of time when the paper edition came out. I'm not sure if this was accidental or on purpose but clicking on the link resulted in a page not found error.

Just saw a thread with a link to customer documentation. Does this imply EE users have different set of documentation?

No, it's just zipped-up docs from docs.liferay.com.

I just use that link because the person was using EE.
