Javascript displayed in content in IE

This may well not be a Liferay issue but I'm using Liferay so here goes ... I'm using Liferay 5.1 Community edition and have setup some content with no problems. I've been viewing content in Firefox but discovered when I view the site with IE (IE6 SP2) the Welcome page displays the following script code

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]-->

in various places amongst the text.

None of the other pages that I've created display this code. I've looked through the settings in IE but can't find anything obvious that might cause this to happen.

I'd appreciate any suggestions as to how to suppress the code from being displayed.

A few permutations on my google searching came up with this post that has a suggestion that seems to work.
