I'm pretty new to LifeRay SO, and I have been selected to test it at work. I wanted to know, is it possible to synch this calendar with the calendar in Microsoft Outlook or any other application?

Hi Jude,
In the next version we'll have import and export for .ics files. Full integration with Outlook will take a bit more work—if you have any ideas around this let us know!

Right now we're supporting .ics; what formats would you like to see
supported and what are the advantages of each format?

i made a mistake, i meant to state,
ical, mcal, and ics
ics is not a cal format, its an import/export format only, cal entries are not actually stored in this format.
mcal is not a format that should be supported for much longer, the only major user of this format is the sun messaging system.
when zimbra was being developed, i worked with them on the calendar portion, and the format was chosen based on standards, (ical)
the ical format is now support by MS office (even though their cal entries are stored in a proprietary format (cali, go figure)) but all imports and exports are done via the ics format.
i think that the same should apply to SO,
the format in which the cal entries are stored should be the ical format,
if that happens i can and will submit my various perl scripts that i wrote a long time ago to make them work seamlessly with MS office and OPenOffice.

Hi Steve, we're using .ics for import / export. For the actual event, here's what the content of a file looks like:
Is that .ical format? (I added some spaces to prevent smileys from appearing)
Also, do you have any thoughts on the Bedework project? We're considering using them as a CalDAV server and possibly integrating with Liferay...

caldev is the best of all worlds, it supports pretty much every rfc compliant cal format.
if you need any help implementing it let me know,
in addition the Bedework project is amazing, and i have been running it at the enterprise level for a while now.

That would be great, Steve. You mean implementing CalDAV support in Liferay's calendar so that it can publish/subscribe to accounts from a CalDAV server?

By the way, Steve, you should clear out your replies before hitting "Send"—otherwise you end up leaving your phone number in the thread.

Any word on when we can see CalDAV support?
