Purpose of GLOBAL scope

Hi!

What's the purpose of Global scope?
I created a folder and put a document in the document library of the global scope, hoping to find it available for every community/organization of my portal... but in the Document Library Display this folder is not selectable! If I click on ROOT I can't see the global scope.

Is it a bug, am I doing anything wrong, or does it have a different purpose?

Also, if this is not the way it should work, can you suggest a way to display the same document in more than one organization?

To display files (or any asset in general) from different scope you need to configure the portlet.
In your case you need to go to Configuration > Scope for the Document Library Display and select the Global scope there.

Hi Milen,

The problem is that in my portlet configuration the only scope I can select is default (and I guess it's just the community/organization where the DL display is placed) or the current page only.
So, I can't see a way to select the "global" scope to existing documents or, if I have folders and files in the "global" scope (set from the Control panel), how can I show them if
they are not selectable anywhere? I can't see them shown so I can't select them as root... not even in the public community emoticon

I'm not sure I understand your question. Are yo saying you see a screen like the one in the screenshot above but there is no Global scope in there? Is it your own portlet or standard Liferay porlet you are referring? Which Liferay version you are using? Can you provide some more detailed information about what you are doing?

Hi Milen and Prakash,

sorry I forgot to add that my Liferay version is CE 6.0.6.

Here is my screenshot

So, is there anyone who can confirm that in my Liferay version (6.0.6) the global scope is not available?

Isn't it possible to have a common folder for all the organization I have? emoticon

Are you doing this as Administrator?

Sure, as Administrator.

I was also considering the Asset publisher to show at least a document (I'd prefer to show a whole folder) but that doesn't seem to work as well emoticon

Is there maybe some portal setting that I need to change?

Just coming back to this.

I am assuming LR 6.0.6 doesn't have the "global" folder feature available.
Is it correct?
Is it some sort of bug that I can fix?
Or maybe there's some portal setting I need to add?

any feedback on my Liferay version would be very appreciated emoticon

I see it available in 6.0 EE SP1, sorry I don't have a CE bundle at the moment.

Thank you Kenneth, I have the CE version indeed... but maybe there's some setting I need to change in portal-ext.properties...

It would be so useful! emoticon

There are 3 scopes as you might already know:
1) Default Scope (or Site Scope or Community Scope)
2) Page Scope: The scope of the page. This can be considered as a sub-scope of Site Scope.
3) Global Scope: This is used to show the content irrespective of any Site or Organization as you have thought. It is available to all the sites or Organization Sites.

Here is how you can configure any portlet on a page to show the Contents of the Global Scope in that portlet:

Click on Configuration --> Scope --> Select Global Scope --> Click Save [see image attached]
