Portlet "Look & Feel" Not Loading for certain portlets

I am trying to remove the portlet title and borders. I get the "Loading" icon but it never gets to the look and feel menu where i can remove the title/borders.

The HTTP POST to the first URL below (i.e. to render_portlet) never returns anything for some portlets and thus the 2nd HTTP POST never occurs. When this happens "look and feel" menu never comes up. Is it related to some layout (as it works for some other portlets with a different p_l_id)

I'm facing the same issue. I don't suppose you have found a solution?
