What is liferay

Hi Guys;



A customer wants me to develop a custom application (NOP), but using Liferay.
Honestly, I never heard about Liferay, digging in the net to learn something and also
still reading the forum posts.

I wonder that if anyone exist out there who may give some clue or direct me to a proper
resource.

I need to know that

What is liferay development?
How can an external web application integrated with liferay?

I am a new user to liferay and would like to know liferay 5.2 from a user perspective. How to administrator and use it from a non-developer point of view.

Any suggested resources will be appreciated.
