Is there any working guidelines for integrating Liferay 5.2.x with Alfresco 3?
I see that there is 1 by Jonas (Cignex) but his package throws an 'Error deploying configuration descriptor ROOT.XML' during initial startup and neither alfresco nor liferay starts up. Besides, his howto doesn't tell you how to set it up.. rather it's just an instruction on setting up his package only.
The other instruction is by Jeff Potts (Optaros/) and I'm able to follow it up to the point of setting up Liferay and Alfresco. However, when trying to configure Alfresco as a Liferay plugin (step 9) I get bunch of error messages and Alfresco never starts up. He mentions copying 4 files (liferay-display.xml, liferay-plugin-package.xml, liferay-portlet.xml, and portlet.xml) yet his zip file contains 2 more files (faces-config.xml and web.xml).. I tried copying 4 only and all 6 files prior to creating a war file but neither works. I also tried copying them and editing their versions but this doesn't work either. What files am I suppose to use? Can someone post links?
I see couple of people successfully integrating Liferay 5 with Alfresco 3. Can any provide with a more descriptive howto?

Hi,
I am using Alfresco 3.0 with Liferay 5.2.3+JBoss 4.2.3.I am not able to get Alfresco as portlet in Liferay as well as not getting any errors. Has Alfresco stopped supporting portlet in Liferay in ver 3.0?Also I am getting 'Error deploying configuration descriptor ROOT.XML' as error while deploying Cignex solution & Liferay is not able to start at all.I have come across many references, they are talking about Cignex portlets for Alfresco integration to Liferay which are not open source.
Has portlet integration part gone from Alfresco to Cignex?
Anybody out there with some solution?
Thanks & Regards,
Lalit

Hi,
I have Liferay 5.2.3 working with Alfresco 3Stable Labs (3.0).
The solution was:
1- go to http://issues.liferay.com/browse/LPS-746
2- download "proxy.jsp"
3- (optional) edit "proxy.jsp" and delete lines 94, 95, 96:
4- Goes to: $LIFERAY_DIR/$TOMCAT_DIR/webapps/ROOT/html/portlets/iframe
5- backup your actual proxy.jsp. Make a copy of it as "proxy.jsp.original"
6- Put your new "proxy.jsp" file.
7- Log into Liferay (your login name MUST works with Alfresco, same login for both application)
8- Create a new IFrame portlet.
9- Configuration of Iframe portlet:
source URL http://YOUR_DOMAIN/alfresco/faces/jsp/login.jsp (example URL, you can write what you want)
relative to context path no
authenticate yes
authentication type form
user name field name loginForm:user-name
value loginForm:user-name=$login$
password name field name loginForm:user-password
value loginForm:user-password=$password$

Hi David,
I am currently trying to do the same, but with ALfresco v3.2, so somequestions :
a) did you follow the alfresco wiki steps ?
b) which set of "liferay plugin files" did you use
c) which java version are you using
d) which version information did you enter into "liferay-plugin-portlet.xml" DTD ? 5_0_0 or 5_2_0
e) which version of liferay did you mention below ? "5.2.*", "5.2.3" ?
f) Did you change any other settings besides the proxy.jsp ?
I do ask the questions, because I think, I do everything correctly, but I get a "WAIportlet cannot be cast to javax.portlet.Portlet" exception or a "no connection" exception, as soon as I try to add the alfresco.war with the included liferay-plugin files.
Regards, Norgan

Hi Lucas,
It seems that the alfresco WAR (zip) file isn't ready for deployment. You may download alfresco war first (put it in /temp folder temporally). After downloading process was completed, drop the war file to the folder /deploy.
Hope that it helps
Thanks

Hi Jonas!
I read very often your posts about Liferay and Alfresco integration, here and into other Web sites/blogs, but as you know, the Alfresco web client is not workinf as Liferay portlet, because you can't add/upload contents in the Alfresco's folders. For example.....
I'm using Liferay Portal 5.1.2 and Alfresco ECM 3.2r2 deployed as portlets, using Tomcat 5.5.26.
Tomcat, Liferay and Alfresco starts up ok, without errors, and 6 Alfresco portlets are deployed onto liferay and registered successfully...
But now the big problem: You can't add/upload content in Alfresco's folders.
You can add the Alfresco client portlet to a portal page, but when you try to 'add a content' - you get the error:
([org.alfresco.web.ui.common.Utils] A system error happened during the operation: null
java.lang.NullPointerException
at org.alfresco.repo.content.filestore.FileContentReader.<init>(FileContentReader.java:123))
So, the Alfresco client is not useful as a portlet.
This is a problem since a long time, also using previous Alfresco version.
Please, could you help on this?
Also your bundles are affected by the above problems and your books that I purchased don't helps about this....
Thank you in advance!
Ivano

Hi Ivano,
You are right, you met one bug - uploading does not work properly in Alfresco 3.x and Liferay 5.1.x.
Fortunately, this bug got fixed in in Alfresco 3.x and Liferay 5.2.x or above (like 6.x).
You may test the same at

Just uploaded one content into Alfresco client portlet. It did work smoothly.
By the way, details about Alfresco 3.x and Liferay 6.x will be available in the new book:

Hope that it helps,

Quick question and not sure if it is related.
What do I need to do differently from the articles you have written or the cignex readme documentation for full integration of Alfresco/Liferay when I don't have then running on the same system or Tomcat instance?
Do I need to deploy alfresco.war and share.war in order to have CMIS access for Documents?
Does this alfresco.war and share.war need to come from my Alfresco installation?
The cignex examples are hard-coded to cignex urls, and I am not sure that the readmes clearly identify all the changes required if I have a different MySQL location, Alfresco location, and Liferay.
So I have a Tomcat/Liferay/MySQL on one server and a Tomcat/Alfresco/MySQL on another server.
Any pointers you can give me would be great.
And do I really need the LDAP/CAS pieces, or do I need this for full SSO between the products for ease of Portlet development?
Thanks...jay

Are you sure the bug is solved? I red a post in the Alfresco forum (http://forums.alfresco.com/en/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=24104&p=78774&hilit=portlet+client#p78774) and also with Liferay 5.3 doesn't work...
I don't know if i am missing something, because you told it's currentely working fine at your site.
Any ideas why is this still happen to me?

By the way, details about integration of Alfresco 3.x and Liferay 6.x will be available in the new book:
Liferay Portal 6 Enterprise Intranets (coming out soon)
Hope that it helps,
Thanks

Hi,
I have Liferay 5.2.3 working with Alfresco 3Stable Labs (3.0).
The solution was:
1- go to http://issues.liferay.com/browse/LPS-746
2- download "proxy.jsp"
3- (optional) edit "proxy.jsp" and delete lines 94, 95, 96:
<script type="text/javascript"> alert("usernamekey=<%= userNameKey %>, usernamevalue=<%= userNameValue %>, passwordkey=<%= passwordKey %>, passwordvalue=<%= passwordValue %>"); </script>
4- Goes to: $LIFERAY_DIR/$TOMCAT_DIR/webapps/ROOT/html/portlets/iframe
5- backup your actual proxy.jsp. Make a copy of it as "proxy.jsp.original"
6- Put your new "proxy.jsp" file.
7- Log into Liferay (your login name MUST works with Alfresco, same login for both application)
8- Create a new IFrame portlet.
9- Configuration of Iframe portlet:
source URL http://YOUR_DOMAIN/alfresco/faces/jsp/login.jsp (example URL, you can write what you want)
relative to context path no
authenticate yes
authentication type form
user name field name loginForm:user-name
value loginForm:user-name=$login$
password name field name loginForm:user-password
value loginForm:user-password=$password$
Hidden Variables javax.faces.ViewState=rO0ABXVyABNbTGphdmEubGFuZy5PYmplY3Q7kM5YnxBzKWwCAAB4cAAAAAN0AAEycHQADi9qc3AvbG9naW4uanNw;loginForm:_idcl=;loginForm:_link_hidden_=;loginForm:language=en_US;loginForm:submit=Login;loginForm_SUBMIT=1;
NOTES:
For hidden variable inspect the Net comunication from your navigator, for example with the "Firebug" extension.
10- Save
ENJOY!
David Navarro.
