Deployment hangs....

Hey guys,

I have a very strange problem:
Suddenly, I can't deploy portlets anymore, I can still deploy hooks, but no portlets. I didn't try other plugins. I already tried to delete portlet folder of webapss, I deleted complete tomcat/temp folder, I looked into tomcat/conf/Catalina/localhost and wanted to delete all xml files but ROOT.xml but there is only ROOT.xml in. I have no more ideas. Please help.

After that, nothing happens, Dings-portlet-6.1.0.1.war is still placed in deploy dir and I can't deploy nothing more... After restarting liferay/tomcat, I can deploy hooks successfully. When I try to deploy a portlet the same thing happens....

Thx for help
David

If you can't use 6.0.6 SDK, why don't you just upgrade your Liferay to 6.1.0GA?

Oh, I will upgrade asap...
I'm developing a couple of plugins for a customer since over 6 months. At that time 6.1 wasn't available, my first plugins were still jsp, but as soon as 6.1.0 SDK was available I migrated to JSF. I hope to use 6.1 for production, but I want to test it and now I have to make some plugins fur testing issues...

Well here's the thing. The SDK knows how to build plugins for the version of the SDK. So you're using a 6.1 SDK, you're actually building portlets that would be most compatible w/ 6.1, and offer no guarantee of working under 6.0.

Use the 6.0.6 SDK until you're ready for the 6.1 Environment in production. That's when you upgrade the SDK to 6.1...

Ok... So I will need to test 6.1 earlier - involutary.
I just wonder how it is possible that I deployed portlets a couple of hundred times on my dev installation in this constallation (6.1 SDK ==> 6.0.6) and suddenly it does not work anymore, I just dpo not understand it

Well, w/o knowing your portlet code additions, environmental changes (i.e. did you change jar versions, properties files, etc.), Liferay changes (settings in control panel, etc), it's really hard to say.

Ok... do you know Murphy's Law ?
Such things happen only in moments when you're in hurry emoticon

Do you have some experiences with 6.1 ?
Is there a difference between Glassfisch and Tomcat bundle regarding stability ?
To be honest, I would prefer Glassfish but as far as I knwo LF was developed on Tomcat, so it's a hard deciscion.
Any experiences or suggestions ?

Liferay's compatible with many application containers, but some do give you fits (i.e. I think there were issues w/ auto deploy w/ WebLogic, but I don't remember the details and don't remember if they've been fixed).

I think there's lots of folks using Glassfish, so you should be okay...

ok, I tried to dirty "fix" it:
  • renamed liferay dir
  • unzipped liferay
  • started and stopped new installation
  • copied old service jars to tomcat/lib/ext folder
  • copied old setenv.sh (because of java opts)
  • copied old portal-ext.properties
  • started new liferay installation

The same thing, I can not deploy portlets... WTF, how is this possible ?!?

If you're on a development environment, try creating a new database.

im having the exact same problem.
If i start with a clean DB everything works. But this is an upgraded db from 6.0.6 to 6.1GA.
Since the upgrade we are unable to deploy portlets anymore.

I know GA2 is out but we cant use it since it doesnt work with solr.

Any other advice ?
I do not get any errors during startup.

Why can't use Solr with GA2. There's a plugin available at Marketplace.
