Disabling/Enabling of Liferay Sync by site

Hello,

Is it possible to disable/enable Liferay Sync for the following scenarios:
1) At a Site level?
2) Based on a user's role
3) Allow Liferay Sync Mobile app access, but do not allow sync via desktop client

AFAIK this is not possible.

Why? Well, permissions are granted on a resource level - e.g. you can either read/write a document or you can't. The way to access that document doesn't really matter: What's the point of allowing access to a document one way but forbidding it the other way? And how would you want to maintain these different kinds of permissions for the same resources? It'll be a maintenance nightmare.

If you're desperate, you might be able to filter access on http level based on parameters given (or identify the API calls coming in from sync) but sooner or later someone will be irritated by certain features not working though they configured everything on the portal correctly... (also, the http level is probably the wrong layer to implement business/permission logic, but as I said: "...if you're desperate...")

Thank you for your quick feedback! Our business case for allowing some people to sync and others not has to do with internal employees versus clients. We want to give clients Web access to the document library, but not make it overly easy for them to walk away with the full contents of that library. Yes, they could go online and download documents one-by-one and eventually achieve the same effect; however we just want to make it a little more difficult to do that.

With regard to maintaining something like this, I would want to do this at the role level, where one role has "Edit and Sync" permissions and another has "view only and don't sync" permissions.

We agree having administrative control over Liferay Sync is a valuable feature. We're planning on incorporating a Liferay Sync control panel portlet in a future release for Liferay Portal 6.2.
