Search Not working As Expected

Search capbility seems to be hit or miss. An example, searching for newsletter brought nothing up. However, there are 3 newsletter portlets. If you click on category and do your seach then you will find it.

Another odd thing about marketplace is how it places the portlets. For instance, each of the above mentioned newsletters are in different categories. Wouldn't you expect all three newsletters to be in the same category? Maybe this is done to 'fill out the marketplace' and have it be larger.

Sometimes you may totally lose a portlet !
for example : "file upload" portlet
https://www.liferay.com/marketplace/-/mp/application/31308741?_7_WAR_osbportlet_backURL=%2Fmarketplace%2F-%2Fmp%2Fcategory%2F11232562

search returns nothing. not even found in utility category :
https://www.liferay.com/marketplace/-/mp/category/11232561/browse?_7_WAR_osbportlet_backURL=%2Fmarketplace%2F-%2Fmp%2Fcategory%2F11232561

but it is there !!!

Gordon - thanks for calling this out. We're doing some digging into this search anomaly. Regarding your point on categories - the category designations are done by the app developer. So, although 2 apps may be called "Newsletter", the first developer may feel it belongs under "Utility" while the other one feels his app belongs under "Communication". There's an element of subjectivity to the categorization.

JC: Another issue with search in the Marketplace is that if you want to find a specific version, i.e., 6.1.2, 6.2, search cannot find. That would be very helpful.

Hey Gordon,

Btw, the search issue on MP where apps weren't showing up has been resolved. There was a temporary issue with indexing, which our team has resolved.

On your latest post, could you elaborate? Are you looking to search for all apps that are compatible with a specific version of Liferay? For example, search for "6.2 GA1" would return all apps that run under 6.2 GA1. If you are looking to get back a page/link for a specific version of a single app, that's more tricky.

JC: Hi, It would be nice find all 6.2 apps or 6.1 apps. Not individual apps. I know that would be tricky. But when one is trying to find portlets for 6.2 you have to browse and click on a lot of portlets.

thanks

Gotcha. That makes sense. I've put it on our list. Thanks again for the feedback!
