Portal Authentication through external system in Liferay 6.1

Currently my portal has a requirement of using an external system for authenticating users, rather than using Liferay own authentication mechanism.
However the external system uses DB based authentication mechanism .Please suggest how to implement it.

Hi

You can use LDAP,CAS many more , for centralize the users credentials and integrate external system in liferay.

But you need to check , whether you another system support CAS,LDAP or how much time you have for integration.
Theres lot of ways but the concern is your time-line, then you can approve best one.
