we have made Liferay installations successfully in the past, but with one recent client, we have limited bandwidth in the infrastructure. We have already disabled unused filters to improve performance, made some changes in portal-ext.properties to optimize resources, but, the home page is still weighing around 1.7MB, which, multiplied by the increase of new users brought with the new appearance of the site has made a huge impact in the reduced bandwidth available.
Apart from the obvious (optimize images and additional client resources -fonts and the like), is there any other optimization that can be done to reduce overall page size? Checking with Firebug, the heavier petition is made to download the barebone.jsp file ( 323.7Kb ), but looking at Liferay's site, the weight is around the same..
