Dear All,

I would apprciate any help in understanding the differences between LifeRay Protal and Social Office. It seems that every thing that can be donde in the SO can be done in the Portal but not the other way around. We would like to set up an intranet site with CMS capablities and collaboration... Which product shall we use?

Hi Ahmed,

If your needs include CMS, I would go with Liferay Portal for the time being.

Hi Bryan

  • It would make a lot of sense if somebody could draft a list of functions and features that compares Liferay and Social Office. It takes a lot of digging and experimenting to understand the impact, especially if one is not too familiar with the technologies.

  • Will Social Office functionality be later available as a "plugins" to Liferay proper i.e. to be added to existing portals?

1. We'll work on putting something together, but it might be a few weeks.

2. Eventually, yes, but we need to work out some classloading conflict issues among other things before this would be possible.

Hello Bryan,

One question. When you say CMS, what exactly do you mean?
