Liferay for DB2 zOS

We run DB2 zOS here. During initial installation on the test server, we were encountering errors. One of the DBAs suggested that at least one query was only valid for DB2 LUW, not zOS. (VerifyDB2 is the one, I believe.) My question, then, is can I write a hook to override this, or will I need to change the source code directly? Most of the hook examples are for aesthetic things, or things visible to the user in some way, so I am less certain of how to approach this back-end thing.
