Multiple repositories for multiple organizations

Hi,

We're investigating the possibility to use an existing Liferay EE installation to connect to multiple repositories (FTP, WebDAV for example) on an organization or site level. From the documentation I understand that's possible to do.

However, before we start setting things up, I'm wondering whether Liferay sync will establish a direct link between the client machine and the repository to receive the data stream, or whether all the traffic will go back and forth to the Liferay server first (in the most unlucky cases half way around the globe).

Thanks and best wishes,
Jan

Define "to connect to multiple repositories". Does this mean that Liferay should store its Document Library in those repositories? Synchronize such stores with its internal DocLib?

Liferay offers Http-, WebDav-, Sharepoint-, and WS-connections to its internal DocLib. Also, in the backend, it comes with the possibility to connect to Filesystem-, S3-, DB-Repositories, with the additional mountable Sharepoint, Documentum and CMIS (Alfresco) options . If you're on an external repository like Sharepoint, Documentum and Alfresco, IMHO Sync won't sync that any more, because this would be a high intensity job, constantly pulling data from those systems.

And yes, Sync always connects to Liferay, which stores the data in its Document Library.

Hi Olaf,

Thanks for your reply! Syncing several TB of data to the internal DocLib is exactly what we're wanting to avoid. That'd be the ultimate bandwidth killer...
We're thinking to use LR sync to let the users access both LR content, and to access the external repository/repositories, so they have all their content in one place.

Now if I get your last sentence right:

> And yes, Sync always connects to Liferay, which stores the data in its Document Library.

This plan seems not to be possible then, right? (Unless we shuffle the data back and forth to the LR server, which would again go into the direction of a bandwidth killer). If that's the case, you've just saved us from some quite unnecessary testing effort here.

Thanks!

Correct. Sync is designed to synchronize (your) Liferay's Doclib with your local harddisk. Just like the Dropbox client is designed to do the same between Dropbox and your disk. None of these applications synchronizes with arbitrary stores.

As this is a totally new question I'd like to propose to just ask it independently of hijacking an existing thread that's only remotely related.

In there, please go into more detail and describe what you mean with "integrate". The way you ask your question currently leaves everything open, and any answer to it is correct.
