Media Gallery - extract w/asset Publisher

I have folder in document/media that has a lot of photos. I want to display them as thumbnails and hover over or click on them to enlarge them. I can do this with media gallery but the folder and portlet shows - which is not very attractive.

Would it be possible to use asset publisher to do something like I am describing?
