The page exists, you just have to log in to see it. So it doesn't fall under "page-not-found".

if you try to go to a page like /web/staging/icantbelivethisdoesntexist, you should get a 404 because the page doesn't exist.

If you try to go to a page like /web/staging/home, well that is a valid page that you just need to authenticate to see.

Liferay does this for all protected resources; if you're a guest and try to hit something that requires authentication, it shows you the login dialog so you can auth and then see the resource. But it certainly doesn't pretend that the resource doesn't exist by returning the 404.

The part I don't get is how the guest gets a link to the staging area in the first place.

Staging is completely isolated; other than the dockbar access after you log in, there are no other links to the staging area.

It's working fine for me. It seems you aren't telling some important info (portal-ext.properties, if you removed Guest permission from all public pages etc).

Can you provide more info please?

* /web/staging/login exists
* /web/staging/login has permission for Guest user.

Can you try adding a login portlet in /web/staging/login and retry?

Hmmm in order to isolate problems, can you comment this property:

layout.friendly.url.page.not.found

and restart. Then open a new browser (in order to not have any stored session), then check again and post here the results.

Mmm I see you are accessing a host, which is probably located in a non-localhost server.

Can you try setting the properties that starts with "redirect.url"? Probably you want to set:

redirect.url.security.mode=domain

or

redirect.url.ips.allowed=127.0.0.1,SERVER_IP,<your_host_ip></your_host_ip>

Both properties are exclusive. Please do some tests with these and give us feedback.

It seems that page needs authentication for some reason. Can you check that page/site permissions?
