TOKYO, Japan — (November 6, 2012) — Liferay, Inc., provider of the world's leading enterprise-class open source portal platform, announced today the opening of a new office in Japan as the Liferay headquarters in the Asia Pacific region. Brian Endo, Liferay's new Vice President, Asia Pacific (APAC), draws on extensive experience in the enterprise software industry to lead Liferay's business growth in the region, with a special focus on the Japanese market.
An all-day launch event on Nov. 9 in Tokyo will introduce local customers, partners, and media to Liferay leaders, the company's key open-source technologies, and Liferay's business benefits for the Japanese market. A media roundtable with Brian Endo and Liferay CEO Bryan Cheung will be followed by sessions outlining Liferay's business goals and the market for open source technologies in Japan. A separate meeting for the open source ecosystem in Japan on Nov. 14 will feature a talk from Liferay Community Manager James Falkner and a user story presentation from Sesame Workshop, which won an Emmy for its website (www.sesamestreet.org) built on Liferay Portal.

Liferay's APAC investment comes at a time of steady growth in adoption and interest in the Liferay Portal platform, which powers more than 500,000 websites and portals around the world. In addition, a two-year increase in downloads from Japan of 88 percent signals an opportunity for expansion and growth in the world's third-largest economy.

Brian Endo joins Liferay with extensive experience starting and growing operations for enterprise companies in the Asia Pacific region. He joined Documentum in 1993 and worked for four years in the U.S. enterprise sales division before moving to Japan to start its Asia Pacific operations. He also previously worked for ECM software provider Stellent, opening its Asia offices and continuing to grow its operations after the company was acquired by Oracle in 2006.
