Ownership identification on public/My Profile pages?

Got to wondering how portlets on public/My Profile (6.2) pages work. When you drop a portlet on a public page, for instance blogs, ownership is clear because you're logged in. When someone else not logged in visits that public page, the blogs portlet displays entries for the person who created it.

Anyone know how this is accomplished? Thanks.
