Is Liferay Sync needed in client side also?

I am new to liferay. We want install liferay sync for file sharing. We need to install liferay sync for sharing files. Even client needs to be see what we are uploading. So Is Liferay Sync installation necessary in client side also?

Liferay Sync inherently is a client tool that also needs a server side component.

If you don't install it on the client, you can't use it on that client.

Compare it to the dropbox client: If you don't install the client application, you don't get anything synced automatically. You can reach your documents through the web interface though. It's just the same with Sync.
