ClassNotFoundException when using ldap.attrs.transformer.impl

I'm trying to use LDAP login in my portal (Liferay 6.2), and none of the existing attributes are suitable for the Screen Name, so I'm trying to transform one.

I've made a hook, containing the class

com.liferay.portal.security.ldap.MyAttributesTransformer

which implements AttributesTransformer; I've added the line

ldap.attrs.transformer.impl=com.liferay.portal.security.ldap.MyAttributesTransformer

in portal-ext.properties in my portal root directory, and deployed the hook to the server.

When I start the server, I get the following exception:

If I remove the line in my properties file, the server starts, and the hook deploys, and MyAttributesTransformer.class is found under docroot/WEB-INF/classes.

I've replaced my hook with an ext plugin, following the tutorial in the documentation. The class is now found, and executed correctly.
