You can create the script you need taking a look at the liferay API:

Probably you have all you need in the clasess JournalStructureLocalServiceUtil and GroupLocalServiceUtil.

I'm currently working on www.evolutionsoft.ch for upgrading to 6.1.1-ce-ga2.

We had the problem of a broken instance by deleting the only one public page at the begin on 6.0.6. The login to that instance was then no more possible.

Now that remaining instances causes an upgrade exception by having a JournalArticleStructure referring to an non existing groupID.

Could anyone provide me a cleanup script to clean the integrity errors in the DB created via allowed liferay admin actions ?

i think this post is describing better your problem since you posted here your liferay-look-and-feel.xml code
its wear why it didn't work for you you are using the right setting

.
try to make your
<setting key="portlet-setup-show-borders-default" value="false"></setting> configurable by replacing

1<setting key="portlet-setup-show-borders-default" value="false"></setting>

with

1<setting configurable="true" key="portlet-setup-show-borders-default" type="checkbox" value="false"/>

note the configurable="true" and type="checkbox" that will allow you to control the setting from your manage-page

go to your site open manage-page ----> select the root of your page tree ---> look and feel ----> setting you will find :

see attached file .

all you have to do is to uncheck it .

Hi All,

Recently we migrated from Liferay 6.0 to 6.1 and faced a problem that, portlets which are having view.jsp and edit.jsp , portlet border (title and preference icon) are visible.But for the portlet having only view are not displaying any thing.

Solution i tried till now
i) uncheck show border to that particular portlets but failed,
ii) Added

<portlet-preferences>
<preference>
<name>portletSetupShowBorders</name>
<value>false</value>
</preference>
</portlet-preferences>

in portlet.xml for that particular portlet but failed.

iii) Added theme.portlet.decorate.default=false in portal-ext.properties but failed.

iv) My liferay-look-and-feel.xml is having this code too

<version>6.1.0+</version>
</compatibility>
<theme id="CRPortal" name="CR Portal Theme">
<settings>

The best practice is to leverage authentication services offered by the organization.... if one application has custom business logic for authentication, chances are other websites have the same requirement. For this reason, its best to consolidate the business logic for authentication at a central location. This is the reason identity providers or "IDPs" offer standard web authentication workflows, using open standards such as OpenID Connect, SAML, RADIUS and LDAP. If you want to go beyond simple username password authentication, than its probably best to move away from the LDAP protocol. For a modern application, OpenID Connect is the best choice because it offers a JSON / REST API.

So the question is... how to get OpenID Connect authentication in LifeRay (and other web / mobile applications...)? And how to launch a central OpenID Connect Provider...

For this, I refer you to the OX open source cloud identity project...

With the oxRay authentication plugin to LifeRay, you can now use the OpenID Connect authentication protocol.

You now need to launch an OpenID Connect Provider, or "OP" For this you can use OX.... and here is the answer to your question... in OX you can customize the business logic for authentication to check your database, call webservices, use strong authentication... or whatever else you need to do. And the nice thing, is that if other applications need that same business logic for authentication, it is in the OP, not in just one application...

Liferay developers should understand that there are many, many clients, and organizations are tasked to manage "trust" with each one. Both SaaS services and off the shelf software needs to move to open standards for authentication and authorization, like OpenID Connect and UMA (for web access management / authorization)

With the oxRay authentication plugin to LifeRay, you can get strong authentication (2factor, two-step authentication, out-of-band, biometric... for example). oxRay is open source (MIT license). and implements the OpenID Connect profile of Oauth2. So you would need to find an authentication provider that supports OpenID Connect for your domain, or launch your own strong authentication service using an "OpenID Provider" like oxAuth.

The link for the tutorial doesn't exist anymore. There is a community member that created a PrimeFaces Portlet Tutorial wiki entry though. It's a little out-of-date, but if you follow the warning in the NOTE section at the top you should be OK. We hope to come up with some tutorials authored by the Liferay Faces team in the coming weeks/months.

***Please note that as of today's current release (v.4.2.1), in order to get the database interaction with the Liferay service layer, you must update your source to SVN trunk. This is because this portlet example is in a new *.WAR format and it must use the new ext-service. There was a patch to the classloader that is currently in SVN trunk. Again, you can still create Liferay Portlet wars in JSF with version 4.2, but the database portion of the tutorial requires SVN trunk as of the date of this post.

Thanks Hitoshi. I ended up using this after posting and it did work fine. Also, In case anyone runs across the same issue, you can use Eclipse. I was also able to accomplish the same by pulling the DB files off the server, storing them locally and connecting using Eclipse's DB Perspective. It's more or less the same connection properties as Squirrel. You just need to point configure the connection to point to a local copy of hsql.jar.

I know this is an old thread, but I haven't been able to view the DB this way. I am able to get the HSQLDB Swing app to display but when I enter the URL path to the lportal DB it fails with a '.lck' error. I attempted to removing the file, but somehow still get the same error.

Any thoughts?

Here is an example of a newlsetter portlet I built a while back. This works in 4.x.x and will batch mail.

Basically this goes through groups, user groups, roles and makes a hash of all the email addresses, then shoots out an email to everybody.
