difference between dragging portlet onto server and using ant

why is there a difference between a) dragging a portlet onto a server compared to b) deploying by ant ?

I can review b) myself, but as for a) seems like a black box

how can I dig a) myself ?

A is done through the magic of eclipse. I personally never use this since it does not replicate what will happen when it comes time to deploy to test/uat/production...

B is the only way to go to ensure that you fully test the deployment process...
