New Tokyo branch and installation of new Vice President signal increased focus in Asia Pacific for leading portal platform provider

TOKYO, Japan — (November 6, 2012) — Liferay, Inc., provider of the world's leading enterprise-class open source portal platform, announced today the opening of a new office in Japan as the Liferay headquarters in the Asia Pacific region. Brian Endo, Liferay's new Vice President, Asia Pacific (APAC), draws on extensive experience in the enterprise software industry to lead Liferay's business growth in the region, with a special focus on the Japanese market.

An all-day launch event on Nov. 9 in Tokyo will introduce local customers, partners, and media to Liferay leaders, the company's key open-source technologies, and Liferay's business benefits for the Japanese market. A media roundtable with Brian Endo and Liferay CEO Bryan Cheung will be followed by sessions outlining Liferay's business goals and the market for open source technologies in Japan. A separate meeting for the open source ecosystem in Japan on Nov. 14 will feature a talk from Liferay Community Manager James Falkner and a user story presentation from Sesame Workshop, which won an Emmy for its website (www.sesamestreet.org) built on Liferay Portal.

"Organizations around the world are embracing the innovation, business agility, and lower cost of ownership benefits of open source," said Liferay CEO Bryan Cheung, who will be giving the keynote at the launch event. "We're excited to make new connections and explore how Liferay can help solve the quickly evolving business challenges of enterprise users in the Asia Pacific region."

Liferay's APAC investment comes at a time of steady growth in adoption and interest in the Liferay Portal platform, which powers more than 500,000 websites and portals around the world. In addition, a two-year increase in downloads from Japan of 88 percent signals an opportunity for expansion and growth in the world's third-largest economy.

"APAC is one of the fastest growing regions in the world, and its accelerating adoption of open source technologies such as Liferay is a testament to our potential to become the portal platform of choice for the region's enterprise users," said Brian Endo, Liferay's Vice President, Asia Pacific. "I look forward to leading the expansion of Liferay in the APAC region and to provide the presence and resources necessary to better engage and serve our customers, partners and community."

Brian Endo joins Liferay with extensive experience starting and growing operations for enterprise companies in the Asia Pacific region. He joined Documentum in 1993 and worked for four years in the U.S. enterprise sales division before moving to Japan to start its Asia Pacific operations. He also previously worked for ECM software provider Stellent, opening its Asia offices and continuing to grow its operations after the company was acquired by Oracle in 2006.

Liferay's new Tokyo office is located at Level 15, Cerulean Tower, 26-1 Sakuragaoka-cho Shibuya-ku, Tokyo 150-8512, Japan. Contact the office at +81 3-5456-5796 or sales-jp@liferay.com.

Nomination to Board of Directors underscores Liferay's increased commitment to extensible, easier to manage software

LOS ANGELES – (February 18, 2015) – Liferay, Inc., which makes enterprise, open source portals, today announced that it is now a Strategic Member of the OSGi Alliance and has been voted a seat on the Board of Directors. The announcement comes during Liferay's second year as a member of the worldwide consortium of technology innovators and will give the company representation in both the operations and technical sides of the organization.

Liferay's Senior Software Architect Ray Augé was elected to the OSGi Alliance Board of Directors. Other companies represented on the Board include IBM, Oracle, Salesforce.com, NTT, Adobe, Paremus, ProSyst Software and Software AG. Augé was also selected to co-chair the Enterprise Expert Group, which defines the technical requirements and specifications needed to use the OSGi Service Platform in enterprise business scenarios.

Liferay's expanded role within the OSGi Alliance means greater influence over the direction of OSGi specifications to meet the needs of Liferay customers. The effort also falls in line with the company's long-term investment in modularity. First introduced into the product in Liferay Portal 6.2, OSGi is a framework for developing modular Java applications that will continue to be used and developed in future versions of the platform. Liferay believes the increased componentization of applications into software modules will mean greater value for Liferay users—it will simplify portal implementations, lead to an easier development process to quickly deliver new features, and reduce complexity for maintenance and upgrades.

"We at Liferay are believers in the modular approach to software development and in the OSGi Alliance's role to reducing software complexity for the greater good," said Ray Augé, Liferay's Senior Software Architect. "With that mission in mind, we're excited to work with the smart people and experienced companies at the OSGi Alliance who are solving real-world problems for software developers."

"Ray and the Liferay team are welcome additions to OSGi Alliance's leadership group," said Susan Schwarze, VP and Director of the OSGi Alliance Board. "We look forward to the continued knowledge Liferay brings from nearly 15 years creating Java-based software that is used by some of the world's biggest companies. The technical expertise that Ray and the team bring will be an asset for the consortium and we look forward to jointly accomplishing our strategic goals for Cloud and the Internet of Things."
