Hi all,
some time ago some translators reported a bizarre problem about translations that disappeared from Pootle. After some research we found out the root cause: when an existing key gets changed in Language.properties, pootle does not keep the translations of that key.
The curious can take a look to
the pootle bug. We are in touch with pootle developers to help them as much as possible.
Fortunately, the number of affected keys is very low. A couple of examples:
- The key javax.portlet.description.20 changed because "Document Library" was renamed to "Documents and Media Library"
- The key ban-this-user changed due to a caps change
While this bug gets fixed, we patched Pootle, so that:
- If a changed key was already translated for a language, we mark it as fuzzy in that language.
- Otherwise, the key gets the value stored in Language.properties, so the key is automatically flagged as unchanged by Pootle in that language. This key will count as translated, so it may slightly affect statistics.
As a consequence, we suggest translation leaders to review both
fuzzy and
unchanged keys. While
fuzzy keys are available in the "Quick translate" link under "Translate tab",
unchanged ones are available in the Review tab, by clicking the "unchanged" link.
We apologize for the inconveniences. We are working on a more elegant solution.
Best,
Daniel
