My organization is planning on deploying Liferay severs on several different continents, connected with relatively slow WAN links. The servers will need replicate all data, both at the database level and at the file system level. We will then be using DNS geolocation to direct end users to the appropriate server.

Can anyone recommend a set of technologies that would work best for this setup? We'll be using Liferay EE, JBoss, and mySQL.

The standard liferay cluster setup demands that all cluster nodes are running on the same database, this would mean to connect a central database on a low-bandwidth WAN (or cluster the database through those connections). See the admin guide for more details.

You might get a long way with having a central liferay installation, but utilize a geographically distributed cdn (content delivery network). If this is an option for you, read about cdn in liferay. There's a simple setting in portal-ext.properties to start with.
