Public page not allowing access to image resources

I have simple content placed on a public page that is referring to images contained in the content manager, and, the images are in the Global directory. I assume this is where you would place images/resources that you would use on an unauthenticated usage (i.e. not related to a site). However, the image just shows up as a broken link when I use it as content.

How can I place images in the content manager on public pages? I know it can be done, the "Welcome to Liferay Portal", Start/Learn/Engage etc portlet usage is what I'm trying to emulate, but, on a public page, not private.

Any help greatly appreciated.
