CSS Mint is to make it more easy modify Liferay base Theme without modifying the theme files. Am done with the javascripts and css persistence to database but am still having issues on the best way to load the generated CSS which is saved into the document library.

Present am using java script to load the CSS. This has some noticeable delay, I just want to know the best way to include the CSS in the header CSS so it loads when the main site is loading.

Turn on CSSMint Control Panel. below are some life clip of CSS Mint running in liferay.

Turning on CSS MInt

Quick run on using CSS Min to modify liferay Theme

Move Portal Logo to the Left

CSS Mint Toolbar and Style Editor

Ruler for proper placement

Select the object to move, in this case the logo

Logo now on the right, after Float CSS

From the Theme preset back, I can change the site background and a host of others

The portlet modifies lot of base Liferay UI framework to work, so am currently packaging everything thing together into a single portlet to make is easy to deploy and upgrade, a working beta should be available by month end.

However am still trying to get help on the best way to load the generated CSS into liferay, currently am using java-script with has some obvious delay.

Boiling down to the simplest of possibilities, you'd have a theme w/ the portal-normal.vm template that indicates where to go for the CSS.

Normally this is a file but it can be a piece of code on the server side that returns the CSS as a file.

On the server side you can cache the CSS for quick return to the browsers. The Mint piece would need to update the server side component when the cache needs to be refreshed (due to some change submitted to the theming).

You may still have some JS work to do on the browser side depending upon the complexities of your system, but isolating out the standard CSS theme definition may get you a long way in the performance department.

Hello
Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but project is really interesting.
Maybe it taking more than expected to develop.
I think that interested people could fund you by using kickstarter.com or similar.
Given the proper funds, I think that you could do the job faster and happier emoticon
Best regards
