I'm planning an application that'll make heavy use of the document library. The application will run in a HA cluster against an Oracle database.

I've changed Jackrabbit's to store metadata and files inside the database. However shared storage is available and I was wondering whether it is better to put the binary files into the shared filesystem for better manageability.

What is your experience?

Shared NFS mount should work fine for that because Liferay implements a lock at the app level. But if you have a very large JCR, there could be issues that you must resolve on the back end regarding filesystem size limitations and the performance of a lot of read/write disk access. Database only would be a simpler way to go.

That said, it all depends. emoticon

James, I'll test it and I am leaning towards testing blobs in the filesystem and metadata in the database first.

Will post my findings then.

James,

I have medium amount of data to be stored in Document Library. so what is advisable to use Filesystem or Database to upload content in Document Lib.

Thanks,
