Limit # of Characters in Search Results

I have a content structure and a display template. The display template uses FTL to render the content nicely. But when I see the search results, the results containing the web content displays the entire body of my Journal Article. Is there any way we can limit the number of characters in search results.

As a side note, I would like search to display chunks of text from the body of the article. Is there a configuration which does that?

You could probably create a JSP hook for the JSP in question and modify the logic accordingly.
