New Member Postagens: 2 Data de Entrada: 15/03/10 Postagens Recentes
Hi there. I am a newbie with SO and would want to ask how to change the reply to email address from messages posted in SO Forums.

Currently, it says Joe Bloggs[test@liferay.com]

Thanks!

Hi Michael,

If you open up the control panel, you'll find the tab on the left that says "settings".

Open that guy up and on the right side you'll find "Email notifications"

There you should find the settings you're seeking

Hi Ryan

For some reason this only changes the default email detail for subscribing and updating passwords but not for forum, wiki and other announcements.

Would I be correct to say that it ideally should also change the defaults for those other settings?

See my response to this thread.

Hi Michael

The invite and password defaults can be set by using the control panel and edit the Portal - settings - email notifications - sender settings.

To change other settings You need to edit the portal-ext.properties file located under the webapps/ROOT/WEB-INF/classes/ folder and add the following to it:

admin.email.from.address=no-reply@yourdomain.com
admin.email.from.name=YourDomain Admin
announcements.email.from.address=no-reply@yourdomain.com
announcements.email.from.name=YourDomain Announcements
calendar.email.from.address=no-reply@yourdomain.com
calendar.email.from.name=YourDomain Calendar
communities.email.from.address=no-reply@yourdomain.com
communities.email.from.name=YourDomain Communities
flags.email.from.address=no-reply@yourdomain.com
flags.email.from.name=YourDomain Flags
journal.email.from.address=no-reply@yourdomain.com
journal.email.from.name=YourDomain Journal
message.boards.email.from.address=no-reply@yourdomain.com
message.boards.email.from.name=YourDomain Message
shopping.email.from.address=no-reply@yourdomain.com
shopping.email.from.name=YourDomain Shopping
wiki.email.from.address=no-reply@yourdomain.com
wiki.email.from.name=YourDomain Wiki

Then restart tomcat.

Interesting, it is a bit weird that one has to modify a properties file to achieve what the OP wanted. Whats more is that there are many keys that need to be set.

I'll put it in my to do to see if we can get some unified setting or at the very least a single place were we can set these without having to modify the properties file.

Hi Ryan

May I suggest a new feature to be added to the email notifications settings function in portal and SO.

Include all the possible email notification settings and message editor for each portlet in the email notification settings portlet.

The notification settings portlet should function as follows:

1. Search the portal for all portlets with notification settings and messages.
2. Display these in the same manner as for the default settings below default.
3. Have an option "use default for all" that propagates the default info to all "sub-sets".

Will save newbies hours.

Also important to note is that some Liferay hosting providers only provide admin access through the control panel and no access to the file system. This means users cannot change these settings without admin intervention.

One more thing. It is important the activating these do not require a portal restart as is the case if you edit the portal-ext properties file.

Hi Ryan,

We are using Social office for our internal projects. In Activities portlets all the recent updates are shown but I think we can't get email notifications for that. Examples like document uploaded, forum & wiki post etc. So is it possible for us to implement this functionality or it's already in-build.

Please let us know as early as possible.

Thanks,

You can check your portals settings as follows:

Login as administrator.
Go to Server Administration

Select Properties

Select Portal Properties

You can now browse and view all the settings of your portal

TIP:
Expand to view the maximum number of settings at a time.
Mark and copy and paste to a spreadsheet.
Go next until you copied all properties to the spreadsheet.
Now you can easily search all properties related to email etc.

Have fun...
