Liferay content area black in IE

I've created a custom theme in 6.2 using _styled as my starting point. In firefox and chrome the content are is white but in the ie its black. I'm having hard time figuring out how to make it white for ie as well.

Please share the suspected CSS selector and properties that are working in Firefox and Chrome.

Also, what version of IE are you testing?

when switch from using bgcolor="#FFF" to style="background-color: #FFF;" the issue in IE went away.
