Seeing the following in the log file
The CKEditor installation path could not be automatically detected. Please set the global variable "CKEDITOR_BASEPATH" before creating editor instances.

Doesn't happen to me, and I routinely start and stop many different 6.2 environments.

Using a Sun JDK, v 1.6 or 1.7 (and not 1.8)? Any local customizations? Have you tried to upgrade your CKEditor installation?

No to all those questions but the issues if fixed. Not exactly sure what I did, I tweak some jvm settiings (-Dfile.encoding=UTF8) and portal properties and the exception message went away. I had to blow away my work folder in tomcat to get everything the recompile again.
