Hi Liferay Community,
I have a couple of questions regarding Liferay portal versions.
Thanks to anyone who can give some insight.
Please see below. Thanks in advance.
Regards,

Questions:
[1]
In regards to Liferay versions, what do the following abbreviations mean?
I see them mentioned but never defined.
RC2?
GA?
[2]
How long has Liferay Portal 5.2 been out? (years I assume)
How long has Liferay Portal 6.0 been out? (just recently I assume)
[3]
Can anyone recommend a really good book for Java-based portlet development in Liferay?
For 5.2 or 6.0? Leaning toward 5.2.

Hi John,
Welcome to the Community!
RC=Release Candidate
GA=General availability
You can read more about this here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_release_life_cycle
Our versions are right now:
6.0.0: preview release
6.0.1: RC1
6.0.2: RC2
6.0.3: GA (this has not been released yet)
You can check these on SourceForge, 5.2 is out since 2009-01-26, the 6.0 is not out yet, but the preview was released on 2010-03-04.
I hope others will recommend you a book. I was learning from the JSR-168 and JSR-286 but it was not too enjoyable. With the new Liferay IDE it's more easy to develop portlets, but it's definitly a good idea to learn development from a book.
