Liferay Partners with TriVir, Novell Experts
Offer Portal Alternative for the Enterprise

Co-exhibiting at Novell Brainshare 2007

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Liferay, provider of the world’s leading enterprise-class, open source portal and content management system announced a new partnership with TriVir, a company of seasoned Novell alumni majoring in portal services and identity management. The relationship was formed to offer Liferay Portal as a compelling alternative for enterprise users.

With Novell dropping support for its exteNd Director portal product in 2009, many Novell enterprise customers in need of a portal solution are looking for new options with long-term viability. TriVir approached Liferay, its preferred portal platform, to build dedicated solutions for this audience in a Novell environment as an exteNd replacement. Said Britt Courtney, co-founder of TriVir, “Looking at our customers and the market potential for Novell integrated solutions our best long term strategy has always contained Liferay as a component of a competitive, flexible and long lasting technology stack. Liferay Portal’s maturity on the market, its growing community of Novell users and compatibility with Novell products made it our platform of choice for creating a viable replacement for Novell exteNd.”

“This partnership with TriVir couldn’t have come at a better time,” said Liferay CEO, Bryan Cheung. “TriVir’s expertise in identity management and Novell technology will be a great asset in meeting the demand we see from the enterprise market. It has already yielded enhanced integration with Novell and could result in even a full- blown Liferay Portal Novell Edition.”

The companies will debut several of the developments at this year’s Novell Brainshare conference in Salt Lake City Utah. There, Liferay's chief software architect Brian Chan and CTO Mike Young (Booth 230) will demonstrate how to deploy a full open source stack using Novell SUSE Linux 10, Apache Geronimo Application Server 1.1, and Liferay Portal. Key features of the portal and a high level objective comparison with other offerings will be highlighted so that attendees who provide Novell professional services can make informed recommendations to clients.

Additionally, TriVir (Booth 530) will showcase new features of a "Novell Enabled" Liferay portal, including:

  • Liferay running behind Access Manager – TriVir has created code that will deliver a nice, neat single sign on feature. The security for Novell's Access Manager 3.0 works with a number of popular application servers, making this a good fit for many Novell users.
  • PasswordSmith portlet – The first eDirectory Universal Password-enabled JSR-168 Portlet developed by TriVir. Simply drop it into an existing portal environment. The real power of this feature is that it is written to leverage password policies and Universal Password from eDirectory.
  • Subscription portlet – TriVir’s custom portlet that allows users to subscribe to newsletters based upon the business unit, or LDAP organizational unit.
  • Novell Identity Management integration with Liferay via the Liferay web service interface.

Innovations to come include a Novell IDM 3.5 enabled Liferay portal and other custom portal tools. “The investment around Liferay is in line with the requests and needs of our market,” said Courtney. “We look forward to showcasing some of the interesting new technologies being developed through this new partnership at Brainshare.”
