Portal Admin Training Express (1-day, Oct. 23)

This course is the feature overview for Liferay Portal. By the end of the course, participants will have covered and will know about all of the major features available within Liferay portal. This course is particularly important for Project Leads and Architects to attend to have a full understanding of the functionality of the portal when designing their systems. Portal Administrators who manage users and the day-to-day administration of the portal should also take this course. Participants will learn how to manage the entire system including Organizations, Users, User Groups, Sites, Content, Roles, Permissions and Authentication. Portal Administrator: Participants will create an enterprise portal from the ground up, and learn how to create Organization hierarchies, Sites including Extranets and Intranets for individual Organizations, restrict access to content using Roles and Permissions and manage pages and content using Liferay's Content Management System.

Building Themes in Liferay (1-day, Oct. 23)

This course will prepare your team to customize the look and feel of your Liferay Portal to align with your corporate branding. Theme developers will learn how Liferay themes are constructed and learn best practices for developing themes. Developers will also learn how using Color Schemes can provide another level of variation on the main theme. Topics covered in this training include manipulating images and cascading style sheets, customizing velocity templates, and using theme settings.

Prerequisites: Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Liferay Developer Studio will be used throughout the course, so participants should have previous knowledge of Eclipse or other IDEs for the best possible experience.

Developer Training (3-day, Oct. 23 - 25)

This course covers the JSR-286 specification including the portlet lifecycle, designing JSR-286 compliant portlets, inter-portlet communication and summarizes the differences between a portlet and servlet environment. Developers will design a portlet from the ground up that leverages our light-weight MVC framework, Service Builder to easily create, update and delete records from the database, the Search Container to display results queried from the database in a data table, the Alloy UI tag library, Liferay Utility Classes and custom Permissions. The course also covers customizing all aspects of the core portal using Hooks and EXT Plugins including overriding common extension points to run custom code on server startup, pre/post authentication, customizing the user management section in the Control Panel, overriding core JSPs, overriding the core controller using Struts Actions, overriding Liferay's backend services and directly overwriting core classes. Developers that are responsible for developing portlets and customizing core portal functionality should take this course.

Prerequisites: Development experience with Java and Servlets. Portal Administrator Training is recommended.
