Enabling email notification in Liferay 6.0

I have inherited a Liferay 6.0 project, and the Password Changed Notification email does not work - the account created and password reset notifications work fine however.
I have searched for similar issues, but none seem to be quite the same - is there a way I am missing to enable/disable these emails?
It looks like in version 6.1 each notification email has a checkbox to enable/disable it, but this is not present in 6.0.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
