Hi,
yes that yould be usefull. Liferay currently supports only polls, which is like a 1-question-survey.
kind regards
Tobias

*BUMP* I'd like to vote for this being worked on as well.

The Survey Portlet would make a nice contribution to the community.
This portlet is very good, but it isn't free! Or am I wrong?
Is there anything similar but open source?

It comes for free with all our CE & EE installations and support. We could place this portlet into liferay's free downloads, but it is quite sophisticated piece for use (see another live example) and, based on our experience with other dnl-free portlets, making this portlet downloadable will cause a large number of support enquiries which are very expensive to handle.
Survey portlet has finally made its way to Community Downloads section:
http://www.liferay.com/downloads/liferay-portal/community-plugins/-/software_catalog/products/6943201
While it is a commercial application, it allows for free-of-charge use via external cloud-based persistence services. We are pretty happy with this new infrastructure because it finally allows us to expose a large number of existing business-heavy functions to light-weight Liferay installations.
Next in queue for public release is a SmartForm portlet, see operational demos here.
Edited: released see TransForm Engine
