liferay 6.2 GA2 tomcat mysql high cpu issue

I think I'm seeing an issue liferay 6.2 GA2 mysql. I'm getting high CPU usage on the readaheadinputstream.fill call when viewed in visualvm. if left to itself the tomcat will eventually consume 100% of the cpu. Two quick questions:

1. Are you using the latest mysql driver (just to rule out driver issues)?

2. What is going on at the point of blockage? I mean, if you're querying for all 2+m posts on the forum, you'd see a similar usage pattern trying to read a whole lot of data coming back from the database...

The current version in Liferay 6.2 GA2 doesn't seem that old. The version in GA2 is 5.1.23 while the latest version from MySQL is 5.1.34.

6.2 GA 2 is over a year old: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liferay.

That makes 5.1.23 for the jdbc driver even older.

As the link to the other thread is easily missed: The current prescription is to upgrade to GA3 due to LPS-47533 which William has postponed until GA4 is available.

The only other option might be to identify the changes and specifically fix LPS-47533 in GA2 (which might make more work for William than just checking GA3)

Not sure what LPS-47533 is trying to say the issue or how I can fix it.

Try to fix by upgrading. I don't expect any big changes between GA3 and 4, so that there shouldn't be any complex upgrade procedure. IMHO you should try GA3 now and, if it's fixed, use GA4 once it's out. It's expected soon-ish (I don't have the exact date)

GA3 has a major permissions issue for documents and images being viewed by guests. That's why I'm waiting for GA4.

I know, but my recommendation is to check if the issue that you're describing has been fixed already. You don't need to upgrade your production environment, just check in a test environment. At least with this you'd immediately know if an upgrade (to GA4 then) will likely fix your issue or if you still need to find the root cause. If you wait until GA4 is out, the time until then will be lost for finding this out.

Ok I've upgraded to 6.2 GA4 and switched to Postgres but I'm still having the similar issues with high cpu. I've attached some data that I've gathered from visualvm, including a thread dump.
